Thoughts Complete Actions
“Right now, I could pull out my gun, and shoot them,” James, a former mental hospital patient, thinks to himself as he walks into the dark, cold, and people filled movie theatre for the third time today. Similar to James, we all have thoughts that prevent and cause us to make life changing actions. Our thoughts describe our true character, even though the thinker can only hear the soft whispers. Although some people argue actions define our person, meaning it is more important than our thoughts, it is truly our thoughts that are more important, for they push us to complete (or not complete) actions and they reveal our true feelings with the first idea that pops in our head.
Some will argue actions describe a person’s character and being as a whole, such as a thief being a low, dirty, repulsing scoundrel. However, those people forget to comment on how and why the action was made. The answer is simple; Past experiences and moral, which seeps into our thoughts, helping us make rational decisions. For example, take Jean Valjean, the protagonist of the musical and enormous book Les Miserable. Valjean was taken into slavery for nineteen years as punishment for stealing a loaf of bread and multiple attempts of escaping. Why did he commit such crimes, though, and was he really as bad as Javert, Valjean’s antithesis, thought he was? It was a rough time in France, when his nephew was beginning to starve and his family did not have enough money or food to support him. What else could he have done, other than steal a loaf of bread to save his nephew’s life and keep him alive? It was Jean Valjean’s thoughts that contributed to his actions and saved a poor boy’s life, but these actions also caused him to have the new name of “Prisoner 24601” and a reputation of a low life thief who is greedy, selfish, and downright bad. Also, another example would be Dr.Jekyll in the famous Novella Dr.Jekyll and Mr.Hyde. Jekyl appears to be a well-rounded gentleman, with everything he ever wanted. However, if we stroll past the fancy parties, the social status, and the smiles and walk into his mind, we find that his thoughts reveal something else entirely; A lust for pleasure, desire for wrongdoings, and anger in which he could very well do if he pleases. But what causes Jekyll to not do these things as himself? It is himself, the opposing thoughts in his brain telling him ‘no’, although that does not mean he wants to do the ‘dirty deeds done dirt cheap’ any less. However, his desire takes over him and becomes all he thinks about, causing him to create the potion that will allow Jekyll to indulge in these selfish desires. Jekyll’s thoughts, although his actions spoke differently, were uncontrollable and the very reason Jekyll performed his actions. Therefore, your actions do not define others as a person, but rather the thoughts that cause the actions to ever occur in the first place.
Furthermore, actions towards others don’t typically express what we first believe about a person , but it is the thoughts that we would rather keep to ourselves because overall, it doesn’t do good for image, unless a certain someone is a blabbermouth and says whatever they believe without thinking it over. For example, take a woman who is taking her usual morning walk in the bustling streets of New York city, a place where millions of diverse people live. Walking past this sophisticated woman, is a young, energetic teenage girl with booming headphones, multicolored short hair, and ripped skinny jeans, along with a band shirt. The teen smiles at the woman, who sweetly smiles back and says, “Have a good day!” In reality, this woman’s first thought of the girl was “How could anyone let their child dress up as ridiculous and immature as that?” Although the woman smiled and ever told the teen to have a good day, the first thought she had of her was cruel, judgmental, and overall close minded. Therefore, actions do not express what we first think about a person, because we actually have time to think about what we show and do not show.
In spite of the fact that James had multiple occurring thoughts about shooting the innocent bystanders in the movie theatre so much that he walked in three times to do so, James decided that he should not after many hours of thinking it through. While actions are definitely important, our thoughts and desires control them. As Hamlet said in Shakespeare’s famous play, Hamlet, “…For there is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so.”

TOPIC OF MY ARTICLE: How a terror attack saved a man’s life
TITLE OF MY ARTICLE: A miracle in disguise
WHERE I GOT IT: https://www.studentnewsdaily.com/blog/quote-of-the-week/a-miracle-in-disguise/
SUMMARY: Daniel Cohen was heading toward a bus when someone attacked him with a knife. The attacked hit his jaw, pushed him to the floor and stabbed along his left side, in his chest, in his stomach and in his shoulder. He heads to the hospital where he underwent a four hour surgery. During the surgery, doctors found a tumor in his intestines.
STANCE, HOW I FEEL, HOW IT EFFECTS ME: This is definitely a miracle, and quite amazing. I feel as this is a blessing to Daniel Cohen, for he is a father of five children and having him killed would be a huge burden on his kids and wife. Although most people wouldn’t think a terroist attack is a blessing, for this father is totally was. This event doesn’t really effect me at all. It does effect the lives around him, of course.
HOW IT AFFECTS THE WORLD: It does not effect the world, from what I can see. Although, this is a wonderful blessing from God, there is not much recognition of it. I do believe, though, it effects his wife and children. His family was so close to loosing him to an attack, and if he wasn’t attack they might have lost him to a tumor.

WHERE I GOT IT: http://fox17online.com/2015/12/09/indianapolis-nurse-drives-to-kentucky-to-kill-6-year-old-boy-police/
SUMMARY: An Indianapolis drives 200 miles to Kentucky, and stabs a six year old boy to death. The man also attacked the boys siblings, and the oldest sister was able to hold him off until her father came to help. The father of the six year old boy held the man off until the police arrived. According to the police, there was nothing that connected the nurse and the boy.
STANCE, HOW I FEEL, HOW IT EFFECTS ME: This event scares me, to be quite honest. Just the thought of a man two hundred miles away came to murder a six year old boy that he didn’t know for no reason, just chills me to the bone. It shows how anyone can be murdered, even with no reason behind it. This event also reminds me that there’s crazy people out there, and you’re not safe from everyone. It doesn’t really effect me as much, for I did not know the boy or the murderer.
HOW IT AFFECTS THE WORLD: As it does not effect the world personally, it should effect the way on how we view life. Life is not something that should be taken for granted, as it can be taken at any time from any stranger, friend, or loved one. Also, it concludes on how we should not live our life without any preparation for the worst.

TOPIC OF MY ARTICLE: How Football affects those under 18
TITLE OF MY ARTICLE:Dr. Bennet Omalu Says Parents Should Not Let Children Play Football
WHERE I GOT IT: http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2596649-dr-bennet-omalu-says-parents-should-not-let-children-play-football?utm_source=cnn.com&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=editorial
SUMMARY: Football is a sport that includes tons of hits, bashes, and injuries. Repeated hits to the head can cause serious brain damage, especially to those under 18. The brain becomes fully developed in the ages 18-25, meaning football being played under the age of 18 can cause serious problems in the near future.
STANCE, HOW I FEEL, HOW IT EFFECTS ME: It’s crazy how this even sounds, being that football is a widely played sport in highshool and is also the main money maker in highschool, although the safety of my fellow students and peers are more valuable than that. I am on a neutral point on this topic, mostly. While the sport does cause major brain damage, it does not happen often from what I know of. Football is one of the most played sports, and loosing that sport would most likely kill the people who love it. It does not affect me as much as it would the football players, but I am also part of the band which is just as much fun, and I would hate to not be able to go to football games, dance, and march.
HOW IT AFFECTS THE WORLD: It will not effect the world as much as it would effect America. I have noticed that countries most popular sport is called football, which in other countries is soccer. If the government sides with this doctor, I fear that riots will rise from towns, and schools will become a little bankrupt, or maybe even extremely bankrupt. Football is a great way to earn money for the schools in America. Just about every school has football as an Extra activity.

The Regiment of Roughnecks Marches to State!
The White Oak Band recently marched at Carthage for Area marching contest, October 24th. Being the only military band, White Oak placed 3rd overall.
The band has worked from the end of summer, to right now on their routine, sharpening up their mistakes. Even in desperate situations, White Oak band made it through.
“We put in a lot of work with the band, especially on Monday nights. Flag has been stressful, especially with the fact that two of the band students failed before the Area contest.” Said senior flag captain Paige Bagley. “We moved two of our flags into the band and had to rework all of our features for flag. It was very stressful, but I’m proud of them.”
Many people believe that the band would be anxious about getting the results, but Junior Adrian Synder obviously disagrees.
“I was feeling pretty confident and excited that I was able to get a second chance at the state contest, but I never really felt scared.” Synder said. “I knew that we were going to advance to state because we are White Oak!”

TOPIC OF MY ARTICLE: reports of creep clowns who are stalking and trying to abduct children.
TITLE OF ARTICLE: Creepy Clowns reportedly stalk UK children.
WHERE I GOT IT: http://news.discovery.com/history/us-history/creepy-clowns-reportedly-stalk-uk-children-151019.htm from News Discovery
SUMMARY: Reports of creepy clowns stalking and abducting children have been happening in lots of places. This causes teachers and parents to tell their child to go straight home after school, because their main targets are school kids. While many are called to be hoaxes, the incidents in UK strike fear, because of what they call “Phantom Clowns,” which are clowns that are reported but never caught.
STANCE, HOW I FEEL, HOW IT EFFECTS ME: I just think this is bogus. A bunch of people dressed up as creepy clowns? Sure, clowns are creepy, but it just doesn’t make sense. Why would child predators dress up as something scary to kidnap children, when they are trying to convince them to come along. This effects me, because I myself am a child, and this could possibly happen somewhere in the future. Who knows, maybe the clown thing could spread, if it actually works.
How it effects the world: this definitely effects the world. Who wants their child abducted by a clown, and then having a fear of them for the rest of their life? Imagine how scary and scarring it would be to the children. This effects the world by changing the view on people dressed up as clowns, even though that IT might have already changed that.
Humans of New York
“My wife died about ten years ago. We were anthropologists and did a lot of work in the field together. I recently brought out some of our old notebooks and went through them. They were from forty years ago. In one of them I found very detailed field notes from fourteen months we spent living together in an Indian village. Those notes stirred up a lot of memories. I don’t think I’ll go through our old notebooks again.”
